Paint Protection Systems
There are many different Paint Protection Systems on the market, below I have oulined a few of the more popular products.
Silicon Based Systems
“The spray-painters nightmare”. Silicon based products are hated by spray-painters, due to the difficulty in completely removing them before re-spraying a panel, and the resulting “fish-eyes” cause words to be spoken which would make a sailor blush. The other problem with silicon based products is that they only last for a few months, and the finish on the vehicle is average.
Wax Based Systems
Although your car will look nice and shiny for a short time after “waxing”, wax based systems main flaw is - well the wax !
Wax is oily, and we all know that oil does not stick well to anything. Wax also tends to melt and breakdown in hot weather.
CONCLUSION: wax is not much good for long term paint protection.
PTFE / T3f*l0n Based Products
First lets eliminate some confusion. T3f*l0n - is not the real name of the product, the real name is very similiar, but cannot be used for “trademark” reasons.
Never-the-less, PTFE based products basically have the same problem as wax, in that PTFE does not stick to anything unless it is baked on at very high temperatures.
Enough Said !
Glaze Type Products
Glaze products are a bit tricky to evaluate, as there are a heck of a lot of them. Many Glaze products contain a mixture of wax and silicon based products, and some contain various forms of resin.
The problem is that the majority of these products will not divulge what is in them !
Glassplexin Based Products
Hooray! We finally get to the “Good Stuff”
